Contractors: Minimize Risks with Updated Workplace Safety Guidelines

lady at construction siteContractors face some of the most intense working conditions. Whether they are working to build a home or working to add a roof to the top of a high rise hotel, their tasks generally require a great deal of skill. They also should have comprehensive contractors insurance that can help to minimize risks associated with workplace accidents. Contractors insurance can be less expensive and easier to manage when the business does not file frequent claims. And of course, to do this, they need to keep workers safe on the job.

How can you, as busy as you are managing your employees and business, stay up to date on workplace safety guidelines? We have some tips that can help you out.

How to Stay Up to Date

The very best way to ensure you maintain the proper workplace safety guidelines for your company is to manage them through the Occupational Safety & Health Administration. This organization, commonly known as OSHA, manages the safety requirements of employees in all industries in the United States. It also publishes its set of guidelines frequently. No matter what your contractors business field is, there are likely guidelines to follow. Visit OSHA.gov to manage these guidelines and any changes.

Additional Tips for Meeting New Guidelines

There are various steps you can take to keep your business and employees safe on the job. Those include:

  • Conduct an OSHA-specific review of your safety practices. If you fail to do this and an injury occurs, OSHA can conduct the inspections themselves and levy fines as necessary.

  • Always educate employees on the proper safety protocols based on what OSHA requirements are. Specifically, maintain all equipment and chemical guidelines, host training sessions for safety and hold employees accountable for following those rules.

  • Work with your insurer too. Often times, your contractors insurance company can work with you to pinpoint areas of potential concern and to offer recommendations for improvement. Having this third set of eyes can often be helpful.

Guidelines for workplace safety change frequently. They also vary significantly between industries. While it is impossible to offer specifics, businesses are required to maintain those standards. However, local OSHA offices, its websites and the contractors insurance agents working for you can help you to take every step possible to keep your workplace safe. Be committed to a safe employee workplace.

Our goal is help you maintain safety standards. Call Avanti Associates at (914) 273-8511 for more information on Armonk contractors insurance.
